Our Kindergarten Prep program provides an innovative and creative academic environment. Certified teachers work with students to master the kindergarten skills in an environment that promotes curiosity and a love of learning. Our program meets children at their individual developmental levels and motivates them to achieve academic success.
The teacher follows curricula that will prepare your child for first elementary school. Lessons are created by following the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Early Learning Standards for Kindergarten. Subjects of study include reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. Music, physical education, and art are also part of the day. Our School Age program will provide opportunities for your child to learn through hands-on experiences and direct instruction so they are prepared for school and ready to learn! |

Here is a quick look into our Kindergarten Prep
MATH
Math is not just about numbers. In the school age program, your children will not only understand ordinals and count by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. They will sort and classify objects by such attributes as size or color. They will measure different objects (and themselves), as well as practicing addition and subtraction.
Mathematic skills are reinforced with our hands-on activities that give an opportunity to learn and have fun at the same time.
SOCIAL STUDIES and SCIENCE
Social studies is a broad term that encompasses history, geography, civics, anthropology, sociology, and economics. But it is also as simple as learning about our families – how we are alike and different; the people who make up our communities; traditions and celebrations from home and around the world.
As stated in the MA learning guidelines, our science curriculum includes physical science, earth sciences, life sciences and the basics of scientific investigation and experimentation. Children will follow the scientific method of making observations, creating a hypothesis, testing that hypothesis, drawing conclusions and refining the hypothesis. Some of our science experiments are Sink or Float, baking soda and vinegar volcanoes, and static electricity.
Science and social studies overlap in many areas – especially physical and earth sciences as we ‘travel’ across the United States and discover such exciting destinations as the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and the Hoover Dam!
LANGUAGE ARTS and READING
The goals of The Learning Well School Age program are not only to make sure children recognize the letters of the alphabet but also that they understand the sound each letter makes. In addition, we introduce word families and letter blends and sight words that are reinforced in our weekly comprehension packets. Sight words are common words that students recognize instantly without sounding them out. Recognizing words by sight helps children become faster, more fluent readers.
During our handwriting lessons, students participate in prewriting and writing activities that provide them the necessary skills to begin writing words, sentences, and stories. In addition to receiving instruction, students participate in additional hands-on activities that, for example, strengthen rhyming skills, spelling, and puzzles that highlight beginning, middle and ending letter sounds.
Our days are not entirely academic! The learning is broken up with stretching exercises, yoga, outdoor play, songs and dance parties. At present, our School Age classroom holds nine children and one teacher - a much smaller ratio than public school. There are numerous studies that support the positive impact of individual attention on both academic performance and the child’s natural curiosity and comfort level in the classroom.
Our School Age program encompasses all that is necessary for your child to succeed in here and as they continue their education in elementary school. We take pride in the program and welcome your inquiries.
